Environment
Fine Print is one of a small number of printers in the UK to have achieved the prestigious FSC certification, allowing you to print the FSC logo onto anything you print on an FSC approved paper.
Of course paper is just part of the story, at Fine Print we are working towards continual improvement and ISO14001 certification and already have in place the following practices:
Inks
All standard four colour inks at Fine Print are produced from vegetable based oils, reducing the impact on mineral oil supplies and making for better recyclability.
Chemicals
Our state of the art Heidelberg presses require significantly less usage of isopropyl-alcohol in the dampening system and our digital CTP workflow is targeted to achieve ‘chemistry-free’ status in 2008.
Machine Coaters
All major presses are equipped with machine coating units allowing for water-based coatings to be applied as standard, thereby eliminating the usage of oil based sealers and reducing the need for laminations.
Waste Disposal
Fine Print currently recycle the following process-based waste streams, all through certified and approved waste contractors:
- Paper trimmings & waste sheets 100%
- Cardboard 100%
- Wooden pallets 100%
- Aluminium litho plates 100%
- Press and Pre-Press chemistry 100%
- Ink tins and tubes 100%
- Inks 100%
- Soft and hard plastics and packet wraps 70%
- Computer and electronic equipment 100%
During 2007 Fine Print reduced its landfill waste from two 6-yard containers per week by half and our intention is to reduce this still further by the end of 2008.
